Japan is where my
interest in photography was born. Living abroad entailed so many new
experiences that the need to document them became a necessity.
I'd always liked taking pictures with my point-and-shoot, but
was intimidated by the weight and bulkiness of 35mm equipment. That
changed when it
I found I couldn't document things the way I remembered
them with point-and-shoot equipment. I spent the next three years
abroad honing my skills,
making lots of mistakes, and
unfortunately have little to show for from my time living and travelling in
Asia. My photographs from India in
2003
comprise the earliest work that survived that
period. Fortunately, I got the opportunity to return to Japan in
February 2008, the photos from which
